2009-2010 Grants and Programs

In the 2009-10 academic year, the North Stonington Education Foundation distributed funds for various grants and programs. A brief overview of the grants and programs are listed below.

Playaway Audiobooks
These units provide an alternative reading format to students. This delivery method should be useful with auditory learners or reluctant readers.

Reading to Kindergarten
To improve the reading of eighth graders while introducing beginning social studies concepts to kindergarten students.

Virtual CHEM Lab
To offer an alternative method for carrying out experiments when students are absent due to long-term illness or other issues and as a demonstration tool for chemistry teachers.

Middle School Lunch Time Book Clubs
To provide middle school students the opportunity to discover the joy of reading quality literature and improve their literacy skills while in a book club setting with their peers. This delivery method should be useful with auditory learners or reluctant readers.

Hands On Science Enrichment Program for 3rd Graders
To participate in engaging, hands-on science activities that are creative, innovative, and relevant.

Grant Application Guidelines

The North Stonington Education Foundation (NSEF) is pleased to offer grants to educators and others that will facilitate and reward innovative approaches to learning and to the development of our students and community. The NSEF will fund grants to benefit the North Stonington School District that aren’t covered through the school budget.

Eligibility for Grants

Anyone who supports the mission and purpose of the NSEF is eligible to apply.

Project Eligibility

The NSEF seeks to fund educational projects that are creative, innovative, relevant, effective and inspiring. The primary criterion for dispensing grants will be high-quality educational content and the impact on students and/or community members. The project must promote advancement of skills or knowledge and add depth to the education programming.

Application Due Date

Grant application should be received by the North Stonington Education Foundation no later than, March 15 or October 15 of each year. Applications received after the deadline will be held for the next review period if applicable.
