The North Stonington Education Foundation is a
501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization founded in 2004 to support and enhance our town’s public education

For the 2005/2006 academic year the NSEF funded more than $13,000 in Grants and Programs
Early Literacy Read At Home Project

Kindergarten and first grade students receive bags of books to read aloud at home each week.  Many of the books are not readily available in the library or bookstores.
Kindergarten In Space

This is a project based science activity which enabled teachers to guide children through an in-depth study of outer space, integrating all subject areas.  The students designed and built a rocket ship and created astronaut suits.
One Book One Region

Each year since 2002, a group of area librarians have met to choose one book for local citizens to read and discuss.  For the first time North Stonington actively participated in the One Book, One Region project.  Three books were chosen--one for adults, one for young adults and one for children.  For adults, Louise Murphy's The True Story of Hansel and Gretel was selected.  More than 100 books were purchased, a book discussion held, and the adult book author met with the community and high school students to discuss her book.
Wheeler Traverse Wall

The NSEF has provided an innovative way for middle school and high school students to meet the Connecticut state physical fitness standards.  Climbing on the wall enhances the students’ physical, social, and emotional skills.
Wheeler Library’s Summer Reading Program

Wheeler Library's Summer Reading Program, "Dive in! Be an Ocean Explorer at Wheeler Library", received funding from the North Stonington Education Foundation to purchase new materials for the children's room, strengthening the library's collections and giving the community's young patrons many reasons to continue reading through the summer.  More than 200 children participated in this summer program.
Exploring Engineering Through the Submarine

This program is meant to foster an interest in engineering using the submarine as a way to identify the various engineering disciplines needed to design, build, and test a product.
Middle School Ceramic Tile Mural

Middle school students are currently working on a ceramic tile to be installed in the hallway of Wheeler Middle School.  The mural shows plants and animals found in different habitats within North Stonington.
