Maurice Miner, a member of the Wheeler High School Class of 1982, is honored as a Distinguished Alumni in recognition of his achievements in broadcasting, journalism, and the music industry. A high honors graduate and member of the National Honor Society, Maurice has maintained strong ties to North Stonington, including ongoing involvement with the North Stonington Grange and regular visits to the family farm where he was raised.
Maurice discovered his passion for broadcasting during college, turning an internship into a successful career in radio journalism. His writing, event coverage, and communication skills earned him statewide and regional awards from the Associated Press, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Radio & Television News Directors Association.
He later expanded into national syndicated radio, launching a daily news service for country radio and producing live radio events featuring artists such as Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire. As a freelance writer, he profiled notable performers including Loretta Lynn, Alabama, and Trisha Yearwood.
Maurice also created a pioneering role at a major record label, contributing to the careers of Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, and Martina McBride. In artist management, he has handled media and marketing for Alan Jackson and other major performers, earning nationwide respect for his ability to help people connect and tell their stories.
Maurice Miner’s career and dedication to communication and storytelling exemplify the spirit and accomplishments celebrated by the Wheeler High School Distinguished Alumni program.
