Terence “Terry” Matthew Bishop, a 1984 Wheeler graduate, was always the personification of devotion to his family, his hometown, and his country. Terry served for three decades as a highly respected analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency.

At the Agency, Terry was a subject matter expert on Russia and its leadership until the tragic events of September 11, 2001, when he was asked to use his expertise to work on counterterrorism. As a respected member of the Senior Analytic Service, Terry regularly briefed the President and members of the Cabinet on issues related to al-Qaeda.

Among many other awards and commendations, Terry was a recipient of the Central Intelligence Agency’s prestigious Career Intelligence Medal. The Agency further honored him by establishing an award in his name to be given annually.

The “Terry Bishop Award for Outstanding Achievement by a New Analyst” is a tribute to Terry’s enthusiastic and inspirational mentoring of the next generation of CIA analysts.

Terry Bishop’s ability to inspire and motivate others, while not losing the common touch, makes him extraordinarily qualified as a Wheeler High School Distinguished Alumnus to further inspire and motivate Wheeler students.
